The European Educational Research Association (EERA) was founded in June 1994 as a learned society to:
- promote collaboration between educational researchers in Europe
- promote communication between educational researchers and international governmental organisations such as the EU, Council of Europe, OECD and UNESCO
- improve communication between educational research associations and institutions in Europe
- disseminate educational research findings and highlight their contribution to policy and practice
More than 30 national and regional educational research associations from all parts of Europe are members of EERA. It is governed by a Council and an Executive Committee. Academic work is organised in thematic networks. Since 2008, EERA has been based in Berlin, Germany, and is incorporated as a "Verein" (i.e. a non-profit organisation under German law).

The European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) is a membership-based, not-for-profit association that represents the largest low-carbon energy research community in Europe and is a key player in the European Union's Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan. The Alliance was founded in 2008 by leading research institutes to expand and optimise the EU's energy research capacity. Today it brings together more than 250 organisations from 30 countries.
EERA coordinates its activities through 18 joint programmes that provide world-leading scientific knowledge on three pillars: low-carbon technologies, materials and systems topics.
